Final Harvest was conceived after reading a poem sent to Stephen by Tom Schmidt, Gwen Shaw's son.
The Final Harvest is the first of two paintings completed to accompany Tom's poem, "The Lord of the Harvest". This painting so directly appealed to intercession that it became a stand-alone piece of work. The second painting, Twilight Harvest became the companion to Tom's poem.
It is indeed wonderful when two different versions of the painting can reach an expanded audience. The experience of painting both Harvest paintings opened Stephen up to new areas of spiritual growth regarding the Harvest of souls.
After studying the scriptures relating to the poem, Stephen gained new appreciation especially for what was written in Luke 10:1-2.
1 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.
2 There said he unto them, "The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest."
Blessings be upon those who labor in the fields of the world for the sake of the Kingdom. Though the Glory may appear hidden in the strife, fear, and anger amongst the nations it is truly alive and well in the hearts, minds, and serving hands of the children of the living God who take up their cross daily and follow Him.
This painting is dedicated to all the men and women who have given their lives to preach the gospel of Jesus. Well done good and faithful servant.
