1999-14 - the stinger

He Stood On the Ledge of His Mind...

(It absolutely was no big deal. There were friendships involved. Certainly there would be money, prestige, as well as full justification for the disclosure. It was a step in the right direction. It was a step toward self-reliance. No more kid stuff.)

"Tomorrow, I'm going to tell the boss about Bob's drinking problem. I deserve his job. God only knows when he's going to make a stupid mistake and cost the company a fortune."
(Nobody knew he sent the message. He knew Bob confided in him but this just got out of hand.)
"Yes sir, I had a suspicion that Bob may have had a drinking problem."
"Yes sir, I feel that I am qualified to take his position."
"Yes sir, I understand that it might just be temporary while Bob gets help."
(Now to talk to Bob. How to act? What to say? Timing would be crucial. He called Bob.)
"Hey Bob, I can't tell you how sorry I am to hear about the boss finding out."
"Yea, I sure know I didn't say anything."
"You're right, it might just work out for the best. Well, that makes me feel less guilty about taking over your position while you're getting some help."
"Well, I'll stop by sometime soon and check on you. You can count on me for support."
      "Talk to you later."
(Man that was nerve racking.)

In that one moment in time, destiny was changed. Bob had trusted his friend and told no-one else.

How harmless is it when we betray someone's trust in us. How far reaching are the consequences. Is this just about not keeping secrets?

Of all forms of evil, none are more destructive to personality status than the betrayal of trust.

When an elected official betrays his trust in an obvious crime, he is held in the highest contempt.

God sees in us opportunities to serve His Kingdom on Earth. This is accomplished by unselfishly serving our fellow man. We are given spiritual assignments based on our projected trustworthiness, our probability of success. The odds makers in Heaven have great losses based on their trust in humans. The chances of default increase with the odds that we will experience self-importance as the task grows in spiritual value.

We should be trustworthy and loyal to our children, and spouses, and friends, and relatives, and enemies, and acquaintances, and God.

The story of the crucifixion is the betrayal of trust. From the beginning of Judas' first thoughts of betrayal, he justified his action. The closer he got to committing the Crime of Eternity, the more he created excuses to allow his impending actions. By the time he actually ran in front of the soldiers on their way to the Garden of Gethsemane, he was so deluded that he expected Jesus to believe him. How distorted was his personality? How consumed was he with his self? He was completely consumed with self-importance and was fully insane from a spiritual perspective.

Perhaps we will never walk so close to the edge. Perhaps we will never be entrusted with responsibility so grand. Certainly we may never be tried and tested as mortals to that degree.

Don't be so sure.
